What I'm Reading

Years ago, I stumbled across Heidi St. John's blog (The Busy Mom) and now she has a book out called, Becoming MomStrong: How to fight with all that's in you and your family and your faith.  In this book, Heidi talks about the difficulties moms are faced with in this day and shootings, cell phones, technology, etc.  She directs us back to where we need to get our strength from to deal with these issues and that is in the Lord.  Throughout the book, she weavers humor, encouragement and prayer.  This book is for any mom, no matter what stage of life they are in.  Heidi not only shares personal stories but leads us back to the Word of God.

I've been a mom for over a decade now and each and everyday I realized more and more how important it is for me to be a gospel-centered mom.  In the book, Gospel Centered Mom by Brooke McGlothlin, speaks truth and also shares stories that are relatable.  She talks about moms striving to be perfect or get it all right, when we all know that it is not attainable.  Instead, she encourages us to start chasing after God, the One who truly can help us and give us the strength that we need to raise our children.  Sprinkled throughout the book are daily disciplines we can do to help us to have gospel-centered parenting.  This book is very practical and encouraging and something I need because parenting is hard and we all could use a little encouragement.

If you are looking for a great Easter book for the Lent season or to give at Easter, Easter Love Letters from God by Glenys Nellist is the book for you!  This picture book is filled with beautiful illustrations, 7 stories about Jesus and a love letter from God to go along with each story.  The 7 stories take you through Holy Week...the triumphant entry, washing meeting, last supper, etc.  On the last page of the book is a letter for a child to write a love letter back to God.  This is something I think I want to incorporate with my family each year!

Night Night Farm by Amy Parker is a great board book for toddlers.  In this book, all the farm animals are going to bed and are saying goodnight.    I can just hear little ones loving this book as you say...oink oink pigs or moo moo cows.  It's a touch and feel book so there are different textures on the page making it great for little ones!
