Track and Field...More Than a Sport

We just wrapped up Track and Field season and my kids really enjoyed it!  For the past 2 months, my kids have had practice three days a week.  I've really enjoyed the time too!  For the hour and a half during each scheduled practice, I've had time to do my quiet time and then I spend the rest of the time walking and listening to different podcasts.
I've found myself savoring this summer in ways I haven't in other years.  It has been good for us to get up and out of the house and for my kids to get rid of some of their energy.  By mid-morning, we were through with practice and ready for the next thing.
It has also been important for me to make time to take care of myself spiritually and physically.  I have loved my walks and for an introvert it is necessary for me to recharge by being alone.  I don't always get it, but it makes me a better mom and wife if I have consistent time alone.
Walking and listening to a podcast are 2 things that go hand-in-hand for me.  I've been working at being as healthy as I possibly can be, and I love listening to a podcast that brings me encouragement and often sparks creativity within me.
Although we set out for my kids to do Track and Field, I feel like it was just as good for me as it was for them!
If you are a mom of little ones, find something that all your kids can do and that you can have a moment to yourself!  It is imperative to your health and well-being that you make time for yourself!  Be intentional about carving out time for you, whatever that may be!  I've been a better mom this summer because I'm making time to get healthy physically, spiritually and emotionally.
As a mom, I have often neglected myself and put everyone else's needs above mine.  I have often felt guilty for asking for time to myself.  I struggle with putting myself first when I desperately need it.  But what I've learned is that if it doesn't happen, then I operate out of fatigue, which leads to lack of patience and lack of fun.
Every momma needs time away to refuel, recharge and reconnect with God.  Which then leads to  re-prioritizing and reevaluating what is important to her.   We are all called to run this race that God has called us to, may I encourage you to take time to savor the same things in life like a walk or a little time for you because it will have profound effects on you and your family!
