Steamboat Springs, CO

Earlier this year, we decided to not travel out-of-state this summer, in order to see some sights in the state we currently live in. We’ve lived in Colorado for 5 years, but haven’t seen nearly enough.  Our first trip was to Steamboat Springs.
Back in the winter, I had a crazy moment or what I like to call lack of judgement and signed us up to go camping. Why I did it…one will never know!  You see, camping is definitely not my favorite. I’m more of a hotel-kind-of-girl. Plus, it happened to fall on my birthday. So the weeks leading up to the trip, I kept thinking, “What have I done? Camping on my birthday? What was I thinking?”  Needless to say, I sucked it up and we went.

And you know what?  It was actually kind of fun.  We stayed at a campground that overlooked Pearl Lake.  It was absolutely breathtaking!  This was our campsite…we had it pretty bad, I know.

We saw lots of deer and their fuzzy antlers!

The kids love fishing, even though we didn’t catch one!

One of the main reasons why I wanted to go to Steamboat Springs was to go to the hot air balloon festival.   I love hot air balloons and have always wanted to see a morning balloon launch.  We woke the kids up at 5AM and headed to the launch site.  It was so fun and the kids did great!  Donuts always helps with early mornings too!

My husband does all the cooking when we are camping, so I was able to relax and enjoy the view. I also had my nose in a good book while we were there. So, even though I was hesitant to go, I really enjoyed our time there. Don’t get me wrong, camping is a lot of work and my preference is a hotel, but roughing it for 2 nights wasn’t too bad!

Things to do in Steamboat Springs...

Pearl Lake
Creekside Cafe & Grill...great breakfast!
Beaujo' pizza and make sure you drip the crust in honey!
