American Flag Newsprint Art

This projects was super fun to create and one we kind of made up as we went.  My kids love decorating for any holiday and this project couldn’t be more perfect for the 4th of July!
SUPPLIES: 1- 1/2 sheet of printed newspaper Tempera paint- blue, red, yellow, orange, and white paint brush star sponge ruler and pencil
STEP ONE: Lay your newspaper in front of you with the longest side horizontally. Draw a large rectangle in the upper lefthand corner.

STEP TWO: Using red, orange and yellow tempera paint, paint the newspaper, except inside the rectangle. A light coat works well and you can still see the writing on the newspaper.IMG_1583
STEP THREE: Using blue tempera paint, paint inside the rectangle. Let it dry before proceeding to the next step.
STEP FOUR: Using the star sponge and yellow tempera paint, sponge paint some stars onto the reddish area.

STEP FIVE: Using your finger and white tempera paint, add white dots to your blue rectangle for the stars.
STEP SIX: Using white tempera paint, add stripes to the reddish area.

The finished product turned out really neat and I like all the different texture the printed newsprint and sponge paint add.
