Advent Calendar

Over the years, I’ve done different things for our advent countdown to Christmas.  Our first advent calendar hung on a vintage metal tree stand that I thrifted.   Each day held a special note with an activity or outing that we would do that day.DSC_0116

Each day, we also have a special bible reading that we do.   It helps us focus on the real meaning of Christmas…Christ!  I found these cards from Dayspring last year.  They were free last year, but I can’t seem to find them this year.

Last year, I created this new advent calendar.  I’m also using it this year. I found that it was too hard to do something everyday of the month, since my kids are now school-age.  So, I created something a bit more simple for me to execute.DSC_0057

We do our daily bible readings, but I now focus on the 12 days leading up to Christmas.  Beforehand, I pack up everything I need for the special activity or outing, then when the day comes, it’s easy to pull off.

Each day, Jesus leaves the kids a message and where they can find their box of fun!

Here’s what’s in some of the boxes...DSC_0052

I’ve learned that the more prepared I am, the more fun the activity is! It does take a bit of time to get the boxes ready, but once they are done, it makes things really easy for me!  I try to get them ready at the beginning of December, so I’m not rushed when the time comes.  It also eliminates me scrambling around at the last minute, which no one likes, especially me!
